Group exercise: gazelles at the lake

Tonight we focused on one of my favorite group exercises: “gazelle.”  With six of us forming a herd (flock?) of gazelles, we took turns leading the group forward, back, diagonal, back.  Running around as a group, being aware of our partners’ directions, responding quickly to changes in direction by the lead gazelle.  Always being aware of the center our our body (koshi) and using it to lead our movement.  As Brett noted, after a while, it was actually quite a good workout.

This is one of the aspects of Shintaido I appreciate: how we work together as a group, aware of each other’s movements and condition, to improve each other’s physical condition. (Sure beats working out at the gymn on a treadmill).
